About S.J. Williams

S.J. WilliamsAt The S.J. Williams Law Firm, we say "We know the law!" And we do! Our attorneys and professional staff are tops in their trade. But the knowledge of our team extends beyond just academics. We know the attorneys and insurance companies that may oppose you. We know this community. And we know these courts and judges. It is this additional knowledge that gives us the edge needed to maximize the results in your case.

Our main office is run by Managing Partner Stephen J. Williams. Mr. Williams was born in Washington, DC and raised in the Washington-Metropolitan area. Mr. Williams attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County earning degrees in Economics, Finance and Writing.

Riverwalk Blues FestivalMr. Williams thereafter attended the University of Maryland School of Law; graduating in 1995. Mr. Williams also attended Trial Training School after law school to further hone his litigation skills. Mr. Williams was admitted to the bar in Maryland in 1995, to the District of Columbia bar in 1996, and into the bars of the United States District Courts of Maryland and the District of Columbia in 1997.

Before even graduating law school, Mr. Williams was hired by a major local law firm as a litigator defending insurance companies. Those cases typically involved rejection of insurance coverage claims, auto accident defense, products liability and medical malpractice defense. Mr. Williams handled and litigated hundreds of cases for defense firms and insurance companies before changing his practice focus in 1998 to representation of private individuals and businesses at a major Washington, DC law firm.

Mr. Williams has won hundreds of cases and millions of dollars for his injured clients - some in very newsworthy cases involving gangs and crimes in our schools, animal attacks on our citizens, deaths and serious injuries caused by automobile accidents and unprotected worksites in our community, and negligent care in nursing facilities. Because of his strong litigation history, when Mr. Williams files a case, they pay attention!

Outside the courtroom, Mr. Williams has helped advance dozens of businesses and community ambitions. Some of his most memorable achievements include two years as host of the acclaimed "Law talk" radio program, representing the group that brought the first three Outback restaurants for George's County, Maryland, assisting the city of Montgomery, Alabama initiate and promote its annual Riverfest Jazz Festival, providing support to a number of local churches as they developed and constructed the new sanctuaries, and assisting numerous businesses in every stage of the business cycle from formation through dissolution.

Mr. Williams has also been affiliated with the Prince George's County Board of Trade - Education Division, East of the River Economic Development Organization, a guest lecturer at Howard University, contributing writer to BET.com’s business section, and Prince George's County's mock trial competition guest judge. Mr. Williams has also served as a hearing officer for the Prince George's County Department of Environmental Resources for the past six years, and currently acts as counsel to the Prince George's County Personnel Board and Prince George's County Human Relations Commission.

Since 2000, Mr. Williams has run a private law practice group catering to an impressive list of individuals, private businesses, and municipal governments just like you.
